The Mission Field In Our Backyard
Discovering Missions Opportunities Close To Home
A team of ten members from Regina Victory Church recently returned from a week-long missions’ trip to Streets Alive Mission in Lethbridge, Alberta, where they experienced firsthand the joy of serving people in need right here in Canada. Led by Dr. Nosa Gbinigie, one of the church's missions’ coordinators, the team partnered with the Streets Alive in a variety of practical and spiritual outreach opportunities, reaching those facing homelessness, poverty, and addiction.
Throughout the week, team members joined daily outreach crews to connect with people living on the streets. They also spent time fellowshipping with individuals participating in Streets Alive's faith-based addiction recovery program, supporting them on their journey toward restoration. Other members volunteered at the ministry's repurposed donations centre and the "People in Need" clothing bank, helping sort donated items and provide clothing to those in need.
The team also assisted with several hands-on projects, including painting and preparing a newly acquired ministry building for future use. In addition, three team members had the privilege of sharing testimonies of God's faithfulness at local churches, while others participated in the ministry's weekly "Food Friday" outreach, serving meals and caring for people from the surrounding community. Every opportunity reflected Christ's love through both practical service and personal ministry.
Dr. Nosa described the trip as a deeply impactful experience and encouraged others to consider serving on a short-term missions team within Canada. Pastor Julie Kissick from Streets Alive Mission echoed that invitation, noting the many ways volunteers can make a difference—from outreach and clothing distribution to building projects and community ministry. She encouraged believers to step out in faith, experience God's heart for "the poorest of the poor," and discover how even a few days of service can have an eternal impact.
